Using Tactical with Shopify's Agentic channels

What Shopify's own AI-channel settings and report cover, what Tactical reads on Shopify today, what it adds, and what waits on Shopify's review.

Shopify handles its own AI channels, and handles them well. Use its settings and its report for those channels. Use Tactical for the agents and AI-referred visitors that don't come through them.

What Shopify gives you

  • AI channels, on by default. Shopify's agentic storefronts put your catalog in front of AI channels, and they are active by default for eligible stores.
  • A report per AI channel. The Agentic home shows sales, orders, online store sessions and online store conversion for each AI channel.
  • Controls per AI channel. In Sales channels → Agentic, turn off Allow Shopify to manage for me to choose Shopify Catalog access and direct checkout channel by channel. Shopify says that after you turn catalog access off, it can take up to 7 days before your product data stops being shared.
  • Per product. An Unlisted product, or one with the seo.hidden metafield, isn't shown in AI channels through Shopify Catalog, and isn't shown by search engines either.
  • Direct checkout. On channels with their own checkout, the order is placed without loading your storefront. In Meta's direct checkout, Shopify says Google Analytics and custom pixels won't fire.

These are Shopify's settings. Tactical doesn't change them and doesn't rebuild them.

What Tactical reads on Shopify today

  • Storefront sessions, through the Tactical Detection app embed in your theme: each session scored on behaviour, the pages and products it viewed, and the site it came from, which is how AI-referred visitors are recognised.
  • Your products (read_products), to name them in reports.
  • Orders, being verified. Shopify approved order access (read_orders) on 30 September 2026, without the customer name, email, phone and address fields. Each new order then goes through the same attribution as a WooCommerce order, and an agent order gets an evidence pack. A store installed before then has to accept the new permission first. We haven't yet followed a real Shopify order through end to end, so treat a Shopify store's agent-revenue numbers as unverified until we say otherwise here. Shopify's own Agentic report covers orders from its AI channels.
  • Not AI crawlers, unless the store is behind your own Cloudflare. Shopify gives apps no server-side request access, and AI crawlers don't run JavaScript. With the store's domain on your own Cloudflare account, Connect Cloudflare adds them.

What Tactical adds

  • Agent browsers on your storefront. An agent that shops your storefront the way a person does isn't one of Shopify's AI channels; it arrives like any other visitor. Tactical scores it on behaviour, including agents that never name themselves.
  • AI-referred visitors, by assistant, and which products agents look at.
  • One view across platforms, if you also run a WooCommerce or custom store.

Planned

Showing Shopify's own channel attribution for each order next to Tactical's labels, without relabeling what Shopify has already labeled. Tactical reads each order's channel markers (source_name, app_id, tags) today; the side-by-side view is planned, not built.

What Tactical doesn't do on Shopify

  • Change your Agentic settings. The app's scopes are read-only.
  • Set rules on Shopify requests. Shopify gives apps no request access. Use Shopify's per-channel and per-product controls above.

Where Shopify's settings are

  • Shopify admin → Sales channels → Agentic (Shopify Help: Agentic home)
  • Agentic storefronts · Meta · AI channels with built-in checkout
